Bartele Santema had been living in Indonesia for almost 25 years, before returning with his family to his roots in Friesland, The Netherlands in 2014.

In Jakarta he left his collection of maps and prints to his nephew Sake Santema, who is now managing this shop. The antiquarian in Jakarta offers rare historical artefacts, tribal arts, rare books, original prints and maps of the Dutch Indies and Asia in general.

In Friesland Bartele bought a historical building and turned it into yet another map store, with a broad range of historical maps, sea-charts and prints, for a large part focussed on his roots: Friesland. In the picturesque small lakeside village of Langweer, you can find Frisian books, maps and prints – all original and guaranteed over 100 years old.

Bartele sells and buys and has a special interest in buying material from the Dutch Indies.

If you have any interesting antique books, prints or maps of the Dutch Indies to sell, please email Bartele directly at bartele@bartelegallery.com
